Better known as the “Tea Capital of the World”, Jorhat is the district administrative headquarters of the Jorhat district in Upper Assam. Located at around 250 km from the city of Guwahati, Jorhat is the fastest growing city of Assam after Guwahati. Jorhat was the last capital of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam and home to many historical monuments of Assamese culture. Jorhat is known as the “Cultural Capital of Assam” and many prominent writers, musicians, actors, historians and journalists of Assam belong from Jorhat. Jorhat serves as the nearest Airbase to the Kaziranga National Park and the World’s Largest River Island of Majuli. Jorhat today has grown into a thriving city with a strong character and identity. ​Majuli Island (the Largest River Island in the World) can be reached from Jorhat by boarding a Ferry Boat at Nemati Ghat near Jorhat. The Abode of the Neo Vaishnavite cult of Assam, Majuli is renowned the around the World for its various Satras, the Sattriya Nritya and the lost art of traditional Mask Making. Majuli Island is bird watcher’s paradise with tremendous scope for Spiritual and Eco Tourism in Assam.
​2| Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar Jorhat
Established by the Holy Guru Sri Madhavadeva, the Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar is located near Jorhat and is home to the Oldest Burning Oil Lamp in the World.
​3| Lachit Borphukan Maidam Jorhat
​This is the home and burial grounds of the fierce commander of the Ahom Army, the brave Lachit Borphukan. It was under his command that the Ahoms defeated the mighty Mughals in 1672 AD at the fierce Battle of Saraighat. The best student of the National Defence Academy (NDA) gets awarded with the Lachit Borphukan Award which speaks about the bravery of this Commander.
​4| Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary Jorhat
​Located 14 km from Jorhat is the Abode of the Hoolock Gibbons at the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. The Hoolock Gibbon is a highly Endangered Primate species found across Assam. This was earlier known as the Hollongapar Forest and its covers an area of 21 sq. km.
​5| Mulai Forest Jorhat
​Mulai Forest or the Mulai Kathoni is renowned for the fame of the Forest man of India – Jadav Payeng. A man who single handedly upgraded a chapore of the Brahmaputra into a forest by planting trees. This man made forest is located at Kokilamukh Village near Jorhat.

​8| Tocklai Tea Research Center Jorhat
​Established in 1911, Tocklai Tea Research Center has been serving as a tea research institute of the country. Its contribution in detailed research has resulted in production of tea in North East India to grow from 234 million kg in 1951 to 669 million kg in 1998.
​9| Thengal Manor Jorhat
​Thengal Bhawan was built in 1880 by Rai Bahadur Siva Prasad Barooah. In 1929, the first Assamese daily newspaper was published from the Thengal Bhawan. Now this place has been converted to a Heritage Bungalow and been renamed as the Thengal Manor.
​10| Sukapha Samannay Kshetra
​Laid in the fond memory of the first Ahom king of Assam, Sukapha at Mohbandha near Dergaon and Jorhat. The State administration has pledged Rs 20 crore for the mega project in recognition of the six hundred years of Ahom rule in the region.
