Meghalaya – Itinerary 1

Day 1 – Guwahati to Jowai (4 – 5 hours)

Arrive at Guwahati airport and transfer to Jowai in Meghalaya. Jowai is located in the West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya and is famous for its natural landscapes and pristine waterfalls. The Jaintia tribes of Meghalaya inhabit the West Jaintia hills and they too follow the matrilineal system like the Khasis of Meghalaya. Jowai is where the Meghalaya chapter of the Bacardi Weekender is held. We travel to Nartiang – the site famous for the Monoliths of the Pnar people. These monoliths are the tallest in the World. Explore the forest area here and travel to Jowai.

Day 2 – Jowai

Today we are spending our day at Jowai exploring the Majestic waterfalls and caves here. At first we trek to the Bophill falls here. A least visited place, the clear waters of the Bophill falls leave you spellbound. Enjoy your day out at the Bophill falls and indulge in water activities here. Later in the day we explore the Umlawan cave at Jowai and travel to the Krangshuri Falls here. Wrap up the day by visiting a local Jaintia village and interacting with the people here learning their way of life.

Day 3 – Jowai to Mawlynnong (4 hours)

After Breakfast we travel to the Cleanest Village in Asia at Mawlynnong. At Mawlynnong we embark on a trek across the virgin forests of the Nohwet Village to come out from the Riwai Single Decker Living Root Bridge and sight the varied fauna of Riwai. After lunch we have play a game of football with the local khasi people of Mawlynnong. Evening we have a session of cooking with the Khasi people of Mawlynnong at one of their homestays.

Day 4 – Mawlynnong

Begin your day understanding the practices of the people of Mawlynnong as to how they have earned the tag of the Cleanest Village in Asia. After Breakfast we are out exploring the cave at Mawlynnong and trekking out of the caves to a nearby waterfall. Evening at leisure exploring Mawlynnong.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner

Day 5 – Mawlynnong to Pynursla to Cherrapunji

After breakfast proceed to Pynursla village to embark on our trek to the Longest Living Root Bridge at Pynursla. Explore the grandeur of the Longest Living Root Bridge and trek back to Pynursla village and travel to Cherrapunji. At Cherrapunji visit the grandeur of the tallest plunge waterfall in India – the Nohkalikai Falls. Wind up for the day.

Day 6 – Double Decker Living Root Bridge Cherrapunji

Today after breakfast, we kick start the Double Decker Living Root Bridge Trek at Nongriat Village near Cherrapunji. Duration of trek is 5 – 6 hours. We will also spot the Single Decker Living Root Bridge at Cherrapunji.

Highlights of the Trek:

  • These Living Root Bridges (Single and Double Decker) are one of the most unique bridges in the world. They are grown by the ancient tribes of the Khasi hills
  • Pools with pristine blue water
  • Cross Hanging Bridge
  • Picturesque Views

After the trek we’ll have lunch at the Local Market at Cherrapunji and savor Ethnic Khasi Delicacies and Cuisine. Later visit the Dainthlen Falls and wrap up for the day.

Night Stay: Sohra Plaza Homestay at Cherrapunji

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner

Day 7 – Cherrapunji – Guwahati

Early morning at 7.30 AM depart from Cherrapunji to Guwahati. Arrive at Guwahati Airport by 1 PM to catch a late afternoon flight to your onward destination. Tour Ends bid adieu.
